Parking on Serrano Street
The redevelopment of Calle Serrano was one of the most significant urban regeneration projects carried out in Madrid over the last decade, transforming one of the city’s main shopping streets through extensive urban renewal and the construction of three large underground car parks. The project spanned over two kilometres, from María de Molina to Plaza de la Independencia, with the aim of improving mobility, expanding pedestrian areas, increasing green spaces and modernising urban infrastructure whilst maintaining the area’s intense commercial activity and traffic throughout the works
ERSIGROUP was involved in the project by supplying, fabricating and erecting the necessary reinforcement for piles, diaphragm walls, slabs and structural elements in the three car parks. The project presented a high degree of technical complexity as it was carried out in the very centre of Madrid, with extreme space constraints for storage areas, the presence of historic buildings, constant traffic and the coexistence with other underground infrastructure, including the new high-speed rail tunnel that runs parallel to part of the site
To optimise construction times, industrialised solutions were implemented based on the systematic prefabrication of reinforcement, piles and diaphragm walls. Furthermore, a top-down construction method was employed, which allowed traffic to continue flowing during the works. The car parks incorporated prefabricated slabs made of prestressed hollow-core panels, enabling the removal of intermediate columns and maximising the usable parking area. Thanks to logistical coordination, the rationalisation of reinforcement works and ERSIGROUP’s expertise, it was possible to complete a highly complex project whilst minimising disruption to the urban environment and ensuring high standards of quality and safety
