DESCRIPTION
Commercial hot-rolled bars, with a circular section without corrugation or wings.
Although they have less mechanical resistance they are more ductile.
Available in diameters Ø12 to Ø62 for bars and Ø1.20 to Ø4.90 for rolls of annealed wire.
CHARACTERISTICS
Advantages of using smooth steels
They are used in the following cases:
When a smooth, non-adherent surface is necessary (for example in sliding pins for transmission of loads in the expansion joints).
Clamping elements (hooks, brackets, etc.) for hoisting and placing prefabricated reinforcements or prefabricated concrete elements (walls, preslabs, beams, pillars, etc.), given the large minimum elongation to break of smooth steels.
For assembly elements or separators of layers of reinforcements.
In bars that have to be bent on site, after concreting, using construction methods. Prevents cracking of the bars in the bending when mandrels with a diameter lower than that indicated in the standards are used.
On bridges, as anchor bars of the railings to the outer beam.
Manufacturing range:
The dimensions and tolerances of the smooth steels are regulated by standards.
Manufacturing lengths:
Commercial lengths: 6 and 12 m, 5.6 or 5.8 m, according to diameter.
Special lengths (upon request): from 5 to 17 m.
Length tolerance: -0 +150 mm.
There are smooth steels on the market obtained by cold rolling, whose use is intended primarily for calibration (nuts and bolts) and in metal construction and wires.
