Special bars - Epoxy reinforcements

DESCRIPTION

Reinforcements that have received anticorrosion surface treatment, formed by a coating of epoxy resins that can be done:

By immersing in a bath containing resin the corrugated bars used to manufacture the reinforcements.

By application on the reinforcements of two layers of 0.5-1 mm thick, approximately, using a hard bristle paint brush, roller or spray gun, leaving an interval of 2-3 hours for drying between the two layers.

It is important for the reinforcements to be clean and free of oil, grease, grout, loose or poorly attached particles.

This cleaning is regulated according to the standard.

CHARACTERISTICS

Advantages of epoxy reinforcements

Greater protection of the reinforcements

They are used:

As a preventive measure for reinforcements at risk of suffering corrosion.

To repair of concrete structures, which already have corrosion problems.

They are resistant to ice and chlorides (salt sprinkled onto roads).

Insensitive to moisture.

Simple and easy to use when done manually.

Mandrels with a special protection to prevent contact of the resin with the metal surface of the mandrel are used in order not to alter the protective layer of resin, which covers the bars during bending operations.

After cuts, the end surfaces of the bars are also treated and a layer of resin is added to them to guarantee total protection of the reinforcements after manufacturing. Special attention should be given to the possible alteration of the characteristics of adhesion of the corrugated bars).

Greater protection of the reinforcements.

Increased reliability and durability of the concrete.

Increases reliability of reinforced concrete regarding its behaviour in aggressive environments. It is used on en masse in geographic areas where salt is used to remove snow (also in hydraulic or marine works).

It eliminates the risk of chipping of the concrete layer that covers the reinforcements, as a result of the increase in volume caused by corrosion, guaranteeing their coating.

Greater tolerance of reinforced concrete against deviations of formulation and execution, that cause loss of compactness, such as an excessive water/cement ratio or a deficient vibration.

It does not need maintenance, in comparison to other treatments against corrosion.

Economic

It is a suitable method for large series.

It is readily available, as it comes from Manufactured Industrial Reinforcements or Prefabricated Reinforcements.

Elimination of costs derived from repairs during the useful life of a structure, and their subsequent times out of service, since once the process of corrosion of the reinforcements of the concrete starts, their repair is technically difficult and economically costly.

In addition there are structures that, if they deteriorate preventing their use or need to be rehabilitated, create a critical situation (for example: the collapse that it would originate when the only existing path to access to a place goes out of service).
