Toluca High-Speed Line
The Mexico–Toluca Interurban Railway is one of the largest railway infrastructure projects developed in Mexico to improve connectivity between the Toluca Valley and Mexico City. Conceived as a high-performance railway system for both metropolitan and interurban transport, the project was designed to significantly reduce travel times between the two metropolitan areas while increasing public transport capacity and relieving congestion along one of the country’s busiest transport corridors. The complete railway extends approximately 58 kilometres, combining elevated viaducts, tunnels and at-grade sections
The first section of the project comprises 36.15 km, of which approximately 32 km are constructed on elevated viaducts, making it one of the largest elevated railway structures built in Latin America. The line was designed for a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h and includes four elevated stations, each 200 metres long, designed to accommodate high-capacity trainsets. The infrastructure is complemented by the La Marquesa twin-bore tunnel, measuring 4.6 km in length, and the final 17.3 km La Marquesa–Observatorio section, where the challenging geotechnical conditions and dense urban environment required highly sophisticated structural engineering solutions
From the perspective of fabricated reinforcing steel, the project represented one of ERSIGROUP‘s largest international operations. The construction of the elevated viaducts, stations, deep foundations, bridge piers, pier caps, deck structures and associated reinforced concrete elements required the industrialized fabrication and continuous supply of highly complex reinforcement assemblies. In addition, the extensive use of mechanical reinforcement couplers optimized the splicing of large-diameter reinforcing bars within heavily loaded structural elements, improving both construction efficiency and overall structural quality
ERSIGROUP participated in the supply, fabrication and installation of approximately 50,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel, together with the supply and installation of mechanical reinforcing bar couplers, delivering engineering solutions aimed at optimizing steel consumption, industrializing reinforcement production and improving installation processes. The close integration of detailed engineering, industrial fabrication and specialized logistics ensured a continuous supply of reinforcement to the multiple construction fronts, maintaining high levels of productivity, dimensional accuracy, full material traceability and rigorous quality control throughout every phase of the project
The combination of detailed engineering, industrialized reinforcement fabrication, mechanical splicing systems and specialized logistics enabled the successful delivery of one of Mexico’s largest railway infrastructure projects, reinforcing ERSIGROUP‘s expertise in major transportation infrastructure through integrated fabricated reinforcing steel solutions for viaducts, stations, tunnels and high-capacity railway structures
