Panama Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Panama Wastewater Treatment Plant (Panama WWTP) is one of the most significant hydraulic and environmental infrastructure projects developed in Central America as part of the Panama City and Bay Sanitation Programme. The project was conceived to comprehensively improve the capital’s wastewater management system through the rehabilitation, expansion and modernization of the sanitary sewer network, together with the construction of new wastewater treatment facilities capable of significantly reducing pollutant discharges into the receiving environment and restoring the environmental quality of Panama Bay
The project increased the treatment capacity of the plant by 2.2 m³/s, raising the total treatment capacity of the metropolitan wastewater system to 4.4 m³/s. The works included the construction of new reinforced concrete structures for preliminary treatment, primary sedimentation, biological treatment processes, hydraulic channels, storage tanks, pumping stations and ancillary buildings, together with the strengthening and expansion of the sanitary sewer network and associated wastewater infrastructure. The hydraulic nature of the facility required exceptionally high standards of watertightness, durability and long-term resistance to highly aggressive operating environments
From the perspective of fabricated reinforcing steel, the project required the industrialized production of reinforcement for deep foundations, precast foundation piles, large structural slabs, retaining walls, treatment tanks, hydraulic channels, process structures and ancillary buildings. The repetitive nature of these structural elements enabled the implementation of advanced reinforcement optimization, bar scheduling and industrial prefabrication processes, improving productivity while ensuring outstanding dimensional accuracy and rigorous quality control throughout the construction programme
ERSIGROUP participated in the supply, fabrication and prefabrication of approximately 4,500 tonnes of reinforcing steel, including the production of precast foundation piles, delivering engineering solutions focused on optimizing reinforcement fabrication, transportation and installation processes. The integration of detailed engineering, industrial manufacturing and specialized logistics ensured a continuous supply of reinforcement to the various construction fronts, maintaining high levels of productivity, full material traceability and strict compliance with the construction schedule
The combination of detailed engineering, industrialized reinforcement fabrication, structural prefabrication and specialized logistics reinforced ERSIGROUP‘s participation in one of Panama’s most important hydraulic infrastructure projects, demonstrating the company’s capability to deliver advanced fabricated reinforcing steel solutions for technically demanding wastewater treatment and sanitation facilities
